SVCA Meeting May 16, 2013 7pm San Miguel Fire Station Board Room, 2850 Via Orange Way, Spring Valley 91978 THIS MONTH'S PROGRAM: Relay for Life of Spring Valley! The Spring Valley Citizens Association has signed up to participate in the 3rd annual Relay for Life event held in Spring Valley on August 3-4 at Monte Vista High School's JV Baseball Field. At this month's SVCA meeting, we invite all Spring Valley neighbors and friends to come learn about Relay for Life -- a family-friendly, community-based event that celebrates life and fosters hope that cancer will one day be eliminated! Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate cancer survivorship (all forms of cancer) and hope. Food, entertainment, and activities are part of the celebration. People take turns walking around the Relay track to represent the commitment to the fight against cancer. There is no cost to attend the event. People can join the SVCA team and stay the whole night (in tents or RVs), or they can drop in any time during the 24-hour event and walk laps, play games, purchase food and items to support the Relay teams' fundraisers, learn about the programs and services offered through the American Cancer Society, get information about cancer detection and prevention, and attend the Opening, Survivorship, Luminaria, and Closing ceremonies. The SVCA's team goal is to raise $1,000 to fund research and programs/services that cancer patients receive through the American Cancer Society. Our goal is also to invite 2 cancer survivors (those in remission or who are currently undergoing treatment) to participate in the Survivorship Ceremony held at the event. The Spring Valley Relay for Life Committee is working hard to make this a memorable event. It will be held: DATE: Saturday through Sunday August 3-4 TIME: 9am Saturday through 9am Sunday LOCATION: Monte Vista High School (JV Baseball Field) We hope you will come to the SVCA meeting to learn more about the impact that this community event will have in Spring Valley and beyond! It is a way for citizens and neighbors and friends to join together for a great cause. So, please join us and invite a friend to come, too!
