The Oceanic Express: We Are the People
Jan Gloster: "We are the people who reside in the beautiful San Diego."

To the editor:
The Oceanic Express
We are the people who can’t live without being an entity in the ocean
We are the people who Surf until the rash on our stomachs turns raw
We are the people who tan endlessly, trying to achieve that bronze body
We are the people who cruise our sector 9’s along the boardwalk, feeling the ocean breeze rise against our bodies
We are the people who body surf, feeling the wave barrel over our bodies, taking us like a feather in the wind
We are the people who play beach volley ball all day, until burning like roasted tomatoes
We are the people who parks are cars along sunset cliffs, watching the waves cascade over the rocks
We are the people who jog alongside the oceanfront, tasting the ocean air
We are the people who bring coolers loaded with delicious treats and beverages
We are the people who bring our boom boxes, blasting music loud enough to blow out ones ear drums
We are the people who bring the whole family out for a huge picnic
We are the people who sit in folded chairs all day because we are too afraid of the water

We are the people who throw bonfire parties, watching the embers flicker off into the night
We are the people who where Speedos, trying to show off our overly glazed sun screened bodies to the ladies
We are the people who fall asleep in the sand, until you’re kicked out by a life guard
We are the people who are bold enough to swim deep out into the ocean without the fear of being bitten by a shark
We are the people who cut class early to go catch the best swell
We are the people who risk our lives every day to maintain a safe beach environment
We are the people who would die if we did not have beaches
We are the people who reside in the beautiful San Diego
