Video: Arm Wrestling Tips From 26-Time World Champ Allen Fisher
It's not all about strength, but rather positioning and technique.
Allen Fisher knows a thing or two about arm wrestling. As Mount Helix Patch , he and his wife Carolyn, 22-year residents of Spring Valley, are the sport’s royalty.
Allen is a 26-time world champion, while Carolyn has won five world titles.
Allen, who is still training for competitions, says that aside from arm strength, which is an obvious necessity, technique, positioning and focus are also vitally important, if not more so.

When the champion takes the table, he said everything goes blank, as a method of distraction control.
“You’re just in a zone,” said Fisher about his intense focus before a match. “There’s nothing there other than controlling my adrenaline and endorphins. It’s about being there in the moment.”

He also offers some tips for the novice arm wrestler:
- One key is to maintain strength. Arm wrestling battles are won and lost during these little transitions of energy and weakness. Fight through your fatigue and keep pulling.
- Keep elbow inside of rib cage, as to maintain a safe position. Don’t try to use your shoulder to turn your body, and get it outside of your rib cage. That’s how broken arms happen.
- Pull with your biceps muscle, back toward your chest, instead of trying to push outwardly with your triceps.
- Try to maintain a strong, locked wrist, which will give you an advantage.
