Winners of La Mesa Soap Box Derby Race Announced
Declan Bardin, 9, of La Mesa, won the Stock division.

The winners of the Drew Ford/Kiwanis Club of La Mesa Soap Box Derby, which took place on Saturday, May 19, have been announced. After a fun day of racing, these kids came out victorious:
Stock winner: Declan Bardin, 9, of La Mesa. He attends Liberty Charter School.
Super Stock winner: Kyle Alvarez, 13, of San Clemente. He attends Saddleback Valley Christian School.
Masters winner: Nicole Morrison, 14, of Mira Mesa. She attends Good Shepard Catholic School.
The course for the races is located at Junior High Drive, adjacent to La Mesa Middle School.

The winners will now move on to compete at the National All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio, during the last week of July. The Kiwanis Club and its sponsors help pay airfare for the youngster and one adult, and shipping of the car. About 500 contestants from all over the nation compete in Akron, which has hosted the National Derby for 75 years, since 1937.
