SPRING VALLEY, CA — A woman was killed in a head-on crash over the weekend in San Diego's East County, authorities said.
The two-vehicle collision happened shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday on Jamacha Road near Darby Street in Spring Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim was riding westbound in a 2021 Nissan Rogue that was struck by an eastbound 2010 Toyota Camry. The Toyota crossed over a concrete center divider into oncoming traffic and crashed into the Nissan.
Paramedics took the driver and passenger of the Nissan to a hospital, where the passenger was pronounced dead, CHP Officer Jasmine Lopez said. The 50-year-old woman's name was withheld pending family notification. The driver suffered major injuries.

Paramedics also took the driver and two passengers of the Toyota, including a child, to hospitals. The two adults were treated for serious injuries and the child was admitted for precautionary measures, Lopez said.
The cause of the accident remained under investigation, but investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, Lopez said.
