Police were looking for a mugger Thursday night in northwest La Mesa for a man who pushed a 58-year-old woman down and snatched her backpack that included an iPhone, cash and medications.

At 5:34 p.m., the La Mesa Police Department received a 911 call from a woman who had just been robbed, said police Sgt. Bret Richards.

The robbery occurred in the 5600 block of Lake Park Way off Baltimore Drive, he said.

“The [victim] called 911 after she was walking on Lake Park Way when the suspect pushed her down to the ground and forcibly took her backpack,” Richards said.  “The backpack was dark blue in color and contained the woman’s iPhone, cash and medications.  The suspect fled towards Baltimore Drive.  The woman sustained minor scrapes, but did not need medical attention.”

On Monday, police Lt. Dan Willis said the victim lives in the 5700 block of Cowles Mountain Boulevard near the scene of the assault.
