BART's Lafayette Station Reopens Following Fatality On Tracks
The station was closed after an unidentified person died after entering the trackway intentionally, a BART official said.
LAFAYETTE, CA — BART's Lafayette station has reopened following a closure Tuesday morning due to the death of someone who entered the trackway intentionally, the transit agency announced on Twitter.
"Lafayette station is now open and trains are making normal stops," the agency tweeted, adding that there was still a 10 minute delay on the Antioch line at San Francisco International Airport due to the emergency.
BART issued an alert shortly before 6:30 a.m. about the station closure due to what BART spokesperson Cheryl Stalter called "a possible collision" after an unidentified person went onto the tracks.

The Contra Costa County coroner's office responded to the station, which was closed for approximately three and a half hours, before finally reopening just before 10 a.m.
Trains were single-tracking through the station without stopping during the closure and County Connection buses were used to take people between the Lafayette and Orinda stations.

Foul play is not suspected in the person's death but that person may have been suffering from a mental health crisis, Stalter said.
