Moraga Safeway Reopens After Fire
Update. Store reopened around 1:15 p.m., manager reports. A generator fire closed the store on Tuesday night.

The Moraga Safeway reopened Wednesday afternoon after an inspection by county Health Services, store Manager Bonnita Vigil emailed at 1:17 p.m.
The Moraga Safeway Store at 1355 Moraga Way was closed Tuesday night and Wednesday morning after a generator in the back caught fire around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. One firefighter suffered a hand injury but did not need to go to the emergency room, reported Moraga-Orinda Fire District Chief Randy Bradley.

The fire and subsequent water damage caused an estimated $10,000 worth of damage to the store. The fire in the generator in a back area touched off some paper and cardboard stored nearby, said Bradley. The Safeway's sprinkler system worked well, he added.
The back storage area filled with smoke. About a dozen employees and customers were evacuated before firefighters arrived, MOFD Division Chief Stephen Healy reported.
