Cooking By A Different Book: Oracle Of Stamboul

Around Town March 7-8: Marin Catholic girls basketball opens the NorCal tournament as an underdog; Taste your way through the Corte Madera farmers market.

 

• Marin Catholic's girls basketball team begins its march toward a state crown with Wednesday's tournament opener at Mercy-San Francisco at 7 p.m. The 11th-seeded Wildcats (22-8 overall) ripped through the competition in the Marin County Athletic League and battled their way through to the North Coast Section semifinals before falling to St. Mary's of Berkeley. Mercy (26-3), the runner-up in the Central Coast Section, is the sixth seed.

• Need some fresh fruit or veggies? How about a steak or some cheese? You can find all of this from local producers at the Corte Madera farmers market in the Town Center every Wednesday, noon-5 p.m.

• Reading never tasted so good. A feast for the senses and the imagination, Jale Robertson, a native of Turkey, will unveil the rich aromas of Turkish cuisine as the Corte Madera Library gives praise to The Oracle of Stamboul as part of a "One Book One Marin" program Thursday, March 8, from 7-8:30 p.m.  She will discuss each dish's history and key ingredients and discuss regional specialties.  She will demonstrate techniques and provide samples. The evening's fun is free.

• The Larkspur Heritage Preservation Board meets Thursday, March 8 at 7 p.m. at City Hall. The Board will hear a request from Dennis Gilardi to remove the property at 219 Hawthorne Ave. from its Historic Resources Inventory. The Board is also looking for a new member, so now's a good time to get involved in your city's heritage.
