The life and work of David Johnson has been captured in a short documentary, "Positive Negatives", produced by Mindy Steiner and you're invited to a special screening and wine 'n cheese evening on Friday, February 24th at Corte Madera's Hillside Church at 7:30 pm. Hillside Church is proud to tell David Johnson's story, and especially within the month of February 2012, designated "Black History Month." Mark this date in your calendar. This is a free event.
Johnson was the first African American student of world renown photographer Ansel Adams at the California School of Fine Arts. David went on to establish his own studio on Fillmore St (San Francisco) and documented the development of his neighborhood and the civil rights movement in San Francisco during the 1940s, '50s and '60s. His artistic vision was to "depict people positively in the presence of discrimination."
