Firefighters Break Into Apartment, Douse Fire
UPDATE: Quick response helps contain a small apartment fire and prevent serious injuries.
The Larkspur Fire Department had to break down the front door, but quickly extinguished a small apartment fire at 645 Larkspur Plaza Drive in Larkspur at around 11 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Upon arrival, fire crews under the comand of San Rafael Fire Batallion Chief Jeff Buscher, found smoke coming from the front door and windows of the condominium unit which was located on the ground floor of the two story building, according to Chief Robert Sinnott.
Fire crews entered the building and located the fire in a bedroom, which was quickly extinguished. While in the process of extinguishing the fire, crews located several pets that were safely removed and placed into the custody of the owner. Fire damage was confined to a small area in the bedroom. However, smoke damage was extensive throughout the condominium unit.

Total damage is expected to be less than $50,000. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. There were no reports of serious injuries.
Firefighters from Kentfield, Corte Madera and San Rafael, along with Twin Cities and San Anselmo police, also responded to the call for aid. PG&E was called to make sure gas was turned off to the unit.
