Movie Night: 'Frankenweenie' Remake Is A Halloween Treat

Zombies, ghosts and creatures of all kinds are coming, but don't worry, these are the lovable undead.

Paranorman is due to hit theaters Friday with its tale of a a young boy who can speak to the dead. The neighbors think he's strange, until he and his group of friends save the town from a witch's curse.

But the real treat for kids and adults comes October 5 when director Tim Burton unleashes his animated remake of his camp classic Frankenweenie. Burton created the original Frankenweenie in 1984, with Shelley Duvall, Daniel Stern, Barret Oliver and Sofia Coppola.

Walt Disney Pictures describes the movie as "a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog."

In this take on the story, Dr. Frankenstein is actually a young boy with a genius for science. When he tries to bring his beloved canine pal Sparky back to life, however, things go terribly wrong and the townsfolk break out the pitchforks.

Young Vincent Frankenstein is aided by hunchbacked 'E' Gore and Weird Girl.

The movie features the talents of Winona Ryder, Charlie Tahan, Martin Landau and Martin Short.

If you haven't seen it before (or recently), go ahead and rent the original Frankenweenie, along with Nightmare Before Christmas, to make it a Burton film festival.
