Rant: Don't Make It Easy For Crooks
Please, people, just lock your doors and windows when you're not home.

Marin County is bicycle heaven. I mean, cyclists get great support from the local bike shops and the Marin County Bike Coalition.
That's great, especially since it's so expensive to take up the sport. High-quality bikes can cost more than $3,000 these days from what I've heard. You'd think with all the money we spend on bikes these days, people would take better care of them.
But people don't seem to think enough to lock their bikes in their garages at night. Take a look at the weekly crime logs from the Twin Cities Police and count how many bikes are stolen in the average week, most of them straight off someone's bike rack or from an unlocked garage.

A lot of the blame, of course, goes to the crooks who take advantage of every opportunity. But bike owners have to take some responsibility for creating that opportunity.
Please people, be bike smart — and not just when you're riding.
