We found a lot of great places to have your child's next birthday party — and the treats are some of the best in town.

SusieCakes in the Bon Air Shopping Center creates some amazing cakes, cupcakes and cookies in its kitchen. The ladies there certainly have developed a loyal following, but SusieCakes still finished second in our latest readers poll to find the best place for a children's party.

in Larkspur won the poll with two-thirds of the vote. The create-your-own cookie store has been a big hit with kids, families and techsters alike ever since it opened its doors on Ward Street in December.

The cookie case offers a selection of ready-made morsels, but the real delight for customers is in tasting their own creations. In a fashion that used to belong strictly in pizza joints and delis, patrons can pick and choose the fixings and mixings for their individual creations.

Want a peanut butter cookie with chocolate chips? How about adding marshmallows? Or candies?

What do you want with your gingerbread cookie?

Your cookie comes warm — still gooey — and tasty out of the oven. Take it to go, or enjoy it with some milk and ice cream while you sit at a table and work on your laptop. Now that's a nice office.

And don't forget about the party area filled with fanciful colors and playthings that might just make you want to be a kid all over again.
