No DUI Arrests at Friday-Night Checkpoint

Drivers on Broadway were stopped by deputies looking for signs of impairment.

Sheriff’s deputies conducting a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint near the 7900 block of Broadway Friday night issued citations and impounded vehicles, but made no DUI arrests, according to Sgt. Herbert Taft.

The checkpoint operated from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. and was staffed by approximately 15 deputies. They contacted 753 drivers and sent 55 to a secondary-inspection area, according to the sheriff’s department. Citations were issued to 22 drivers for not having a license or driving with a suspended or revoked license.  Fifteen vehicles were impounded at the checkpoint, according to Herbert.

Law enforcement agencies throughout the county are aggressively looking for impaired drivers during the holiday weekend, with more checkpoints and saturation patrols scheduled. The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
