Here are five ways to volunteer in and around Livermore:

Tri-Valley Haven

The Tri-Valley’s largest shelter, food pantry, and resource hub for domestic violence survivors has a number of volunteer opportunities, including:

  • Spring Advocacy Training 2026, a 70-hour training program that qualifies volunteers to support survivors, respond to crisis line calls, and assist at TVH’s legal clinic.
  • General volunteering: Sorting, labeling, bagging, and displaying for the food pantry and thrift store.
  • Teen volunteering: TVH is seeking volunteers 15 and older to work at its food pantry and thrift store.

CityServe of the Tri-Valley

CityServe coordinates care and volunteer action in the Tri-Valley by connecting volunteers to local nonprofits in need. They are currently seeking:

  • Caring Visitors to spend time and check in regularly with older adults feeling lonely or disconnected.
  • RideCare Drivers to provide free rides for seniors and adults with disabilities living in Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, Sunol, and San Leandro.
  • Souper Tuesday volunteers to help serve free lunches on Tuesdays for low-income and unhoused individuals.

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue has a number of ways to help local furry friends in need:

  • Dog & Puppy Fostering: provide temporary homes and care for at least two weeks to dogs and puppies prior to adoption.
  • Kitten Fostering: provide temporary homes and care for at least two weeks to kittens and moms with kittens until they’re ready for adoption, which is generally after they’re 8 weeks of age and weigh at least two pounds.
  • Bottle Baby Kittens: Help care for endangered newborn kittens rescued by Animal Control officers or community members.
  • Shelter Volunteer: Help care for animals at the East County Animal Shelter in Dublin, and help the public with adoptions.
  • Administration and social media: Help with data management, community interaction, social media, fundraising, and event planning.

NAMI Tri-Valley

Help spread mental health awareness and those affected by mental illness through a number of different volunteer opportunities:

  • Publicity Committee: Help write press releases, social media content, and distribute fliers
  • Events Committee: Meet once a month to help organize NAMI Tri-Valley tables at public events like farmer’s markets and street festivals.
  • Fundraising Committee Chair: The committee is looking for a chair who will lead all aspects of fundraising.

City of Livermore’s Volunteer 3-6-5

Livermore’s citywide initiative to encourage year-round volunteerism has a number of opportunities, including:

  • Keep Livermore Beautiful: help organize park, graffiti and stream cleanups
  • Keep Livermore Safe: Get CERT training, serve as back up for Livermore police and firefighters
  • Volunteer at the library and the city’s Administrative Services Department
