LONG BEACH, CA — The U.S. Coast Guard stopped a boat carrying nine migrants near Long Beach, officials said Wednesday.

The U.S. Coast Guard said it intercepted the "suspicious" boat about three miles south of the Alamitos Bay entrance around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

No force was used to stop the boat, according to the Coast Guard, which said it was carrying nine Mexican migrants and a U.S. citizen aboard. It's unclear whether the driver of the boat was planning to dock anywhere nearby.

Last month, 12 people were arrested after trying to enter the United States illegally through Long Beach, according to Homeland Security officials. The HSI said the 12 Mexican nationals had traveled up the California Coast on a pleasure boat before being dropped off in Long Beach.

The arrests come amidst increasing ICE raids in Los Angeles that have prompted several days of protests in the Downtown area and resulted in mass arrests.
