Horse Dies After Suffering Race Injury At Los Alamitos Course

Data from the California Horse Racing Board shows that this is the 18th horse to die at the venue this year.

CYPRESS, CA — A two-year-old horse died Sunday after suffering an injury at the Los Alamitos Race Course, the 18th equestrian death at the venue this year, according to the California Horse Racing Board.

The gelding, Hidden Speed, died after suffering a musculoskeletal injury, according to the California Horse Racing Board. Further information about the injury was not immediately available, and the race chart didn't mention whether the horse was bumped or anything else that would explain how it got injured.

Hidden Speed ran during the eighth race on Sunday and placed fourth. This was his sixth overall race.

The horse is the 11th horse to die from a racing or training injury at the Los Alamitos Race Course.

The death came less than a week after another two-year-old horse died at the venue. Dr Hes Southern, a quarter horse, died from a non-musculoskeletal injury while under the care of their trainer. The cause of death has yet to be revealed.
