Horse Dies At Los Alamitos Race Course

The horse died following its last race on May 31, according to racing authorities.

CYPRESS, CA — A horse died after suffering an injury during a race in Los Alamitos over the weekend, state horse racing officials reported Monday.

Mr Favorite Jess, a four-year-old quarter horse, suffered a musculoskeletal injury during a race at the Los Alamitos Race Course on May 31, according to the California Horse Racing Board.

Further details on its injury were not immediately available, but according to race results, Mr Favorite Jess was bumped by another horse at the start of the race and was then boxed in midway through. Mr Favorite Jess finished last in the race, the results show.

This was Mr Favorite Jess' 20th race, his Equibase profile shows. The horse had 2 first-place finishes throughout its three-year career, including one on Jan. 19.

This is the ninth horse to die at the Los Alamitos Race Course this year, according to the California Horse Racing Board. In 2024, 19 horses died at the course.
