Independence Day Celebration In Los Alamitos Canceled Due To 'Ongoing Military Operations'

City officials said Monday the fireworks display will now take place via a live stream on social media.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — A free family event that was supposed to take place at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base in celebration of Independence Day has been cancelled due to "ongoing military operations," city officials announced Monday.

Although the fireworks show is expected to go on, people will not be allowed onto the military base to watch. Instead, city officials said, the fireworks display scheduled for Thursday, July 3, will be available through a livestream on the Los Alamitos social media platforms at 9 p.m.

"Due to ongoing military operations occurring at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB), civilian activities and events on Base have been temporarily paused," city officials said in a statement Monday. "Access to the Base has been limited to mission critical personnel only."
