Los Alamitos Joins Wave Of Cities To Track License Plates: Report

Los Alamitos officials began installing devices around the city this month able to track vehicles, The Orange County Register reported.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Cars traveling through Los Alamitos are now trackable by officials as the city has installed a series of license plate readers along several major streets, The Orange County Register reported.

The license plate readers are part of a surveillance network that can track vehicles throughout Orange County, the Register reported. Los Alamitos officials installed 12 of these readers on Feb. 2 in streets that lead out and into the city.

The plate readers are meant to track cars involved in a crime, but privacy advocates told the Register there's no guarantee the devices won't be used on law-abiding citizens.
