Man Who Ran Down Bicyclist Charged With Attempted Murder In Westminster

A 25-year-old man was charged Tuesday with running down a bicyclist in Westminster.

WESTMINSTER, CA — A 25-year-old man was charged Tuesday with running down a bicyclist in Westminster.

Alexis Jareth Ruiz was charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies.

He also faces sentencing enhancements for attempted premeditated murder, inflicting great bodily injury, personal use of a deadly weapon and gang activity, according to court records.

Officers were dispatched to the attack at about 5 a.m. on Sept. 12 in the 15300 block of Beach Boulevard, the Westminster Police Department reported.

The 39-year-old victim was riding a bicycle when he was attacked by Ruiz in his car, police said.

While driving away from the scene, allegedly Ruiz crashed into a parked car. He is accused of contacting the man before he attacked him, police said.

Police recovered the suspect vehicle about a half-mile away later the day of the attack, authorities said.
