LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Orange County's top speller will head to Washington, D.C. in May for the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee, the Seal Beach Sun reported.
Jason Khan, an eighth-grade student at McAuliffe Middle School, was crowned the winner of the 2022 Orange County Spelling Bee on March 5, the Sun reported. Last weekend's win means Jason will represent Orange County at the national spelling bee competition.
Jason's winning word for the county competition was "ankh," an ancient Egyptian symbol that has a similar appearance to a cross, the paper reported.
