No Burn Day Issued For Los Alamitos, Seal Beach And Rossmoor

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Residents of Los Alamitos, Seal Beach and Rossmoor are being advised not to burn anything for Saturday as a no-burn alert has been issued for much of the Southland.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued a no-burn alert through the end of Friday for people living in Orange County and the non-desert portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

Los Alamitos-area residents are advised not to burn wood in a fireplace or in any indoor or outdoor wood-burning device for the duration of the alert. The prohibition also applies to wood products like manufactured logs, wax and paper, the agency said.

“No burn day alerts are mandatory in order to protect public health when levels of fine particulate air pollution in the region are forecast to be high,” the agency said. “Smoke from wood burning can cause health problems. Particles in wood smoke ... can get deep into the lungs and cause respiratory problems (including asthma attacks), increases in emergency room visits and hospitalizations.”

Residents of the Coachella Valley, High Desert and those who live in mountain communities above 3,000 feet in elevation are exempted from the no-burn alert.
