The recommendations are the result of a negotiation process established by the board in December 2015. The action item created the committee with the board and the Malibu City Manager each appointing three members and set forth a series of objectives for a successful negotiation.
The committee met 38 times over 11 months prior to submitting its report Monday.

The unanimously approved report addresses:
- the operating budget impact of reorganization;
- division of SMMUSD’s assets (fund balances, land and buildings and certain personal property);
- bond-related items and other liabilities;
- environmental liabilities; and
- implementation of the Committee’s recommendations.
The committee is planning community outreach meetings following the March 7 presentation and the Board will then discuss and vote on the item, according to the district.
More information regarding locations, dates and times of these meetings will be announced at a later date, the district said.
