Woman Needs Bone Marrow Match

Time is running out for a Manhattan Beach resident who needs to find a bone marrow match, according to friends and family who have been working to find one for Nina Polvanich Louie for months.

Louie's Asian heritage has made the search more difficult, according to her doctors. The mother of a 2-year-old son was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma last September.

She has been treated with "seven rounds of aggressive chemotherapy at UCLA," according to the Easy Reader, and "After two months of remission, the lymphoma recurred in her brain."

Friends report she is currently chemotherapy to control the disease but needs an urgent stem cell transplant.

Visit the SaveNina website for more information. The homepage offers info on upcoming bone marrow donor testing nationwide. Home testing kits are also available from a link on the homepage.
