Amtrak Engineer in Deadly Crash Once Ran Trains in California

He was an Amtrak employee contracted to Caltrain.

The engineer who was at the controls of an Amtrak train that derailed in Philadelphia Tuesday night, killing at least eight (updated number) and injuring more than 200 others, once worked as an engineer for Caltrain, a Caltrain spokeswoman confirmed.

The commuter rail line running from San Francisco down the peninsula and through Silicon Valley once contracted with Amtrak to run its trains. That contract ended two years ago.
