Atherton Woman Gets Jail Time for Rampaging Down Santa Cruz Avenue
Update on the Margaret Brill case.

An Atherton woman was sentenced to five years in state prison Wednesday, for playing bumper cars with her Mercedes on Santa Cruz Avenue almost two years ago.
Margaret Brill was found guilty of driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of an accident that resulted in an injury, according to San Mateo County District Attorney’s public records. Brill pleaded no contest earlier this year; Brill admitted she had previous DUI convictions.
On December 7, 2010, Margaret Brill plowed down Santa Cruz Avenue in her car, crashing three times, and injuring two people in the process. She would have kept driving. But a crowd of construction workers who were renovating the bank across the street from Starbucks swarmed her car and stopped her.
Brill has also been ordered to pay $85,000 to the people she hurt that day. She will get credit for the time she has already served.
