Man Arrested After 2 Armed Robberies In 10 Minutes: Police

Investigators allege the man robbed two gas stations in the span of 10 minutes while brandishing a replica handgun.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — A man arrested over the weekend in unincorporated San Mateo County is accused of robbing two convenience stores in ten minutes while armed with what appeared to be a handgun, according to police.

According to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, the Menlo Park Police Department fielded an armed robbery call a few minutes after 7 p.m. Saturday at a 7-Elecen on Oak Grove Avenue. Witnesses described the man to deputies and said he fled the scene in a green Saturn.

Within 10 minutes, deputies heard of a second armed robbery at a Shell gas station on Marsh Road. Investigators said the suspect and vehicle descriptions matched the Menlo Park incident, and deputies and officers quickly deployed to the second scene.

Police said a Menlo Park officer saw the suspect speeding in the area and attempted to pull the vehicle over. The driver continued to flee before crashing near Scott Drive. The sheriff's office said the suspect was apprehended after a short foot pursuit and was carrying a replica handgun.

The suspect was identified Monday as Edgar Gonzalez Zamora, 26, of Redwood City. He was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of armed robbery.
