Menlo Park Business Burglary Suspects Caught After Fleeing Scene

Two men who allegedly broke into a Menlo Park market Tuesday night and then tried to flee were caught and arrested by responding officers.

MENLO PARK, CA -- Menlo Park police arrested two men who allegedly broke into a market late Tuesday night and then fled when officers responded to the scene.

The burglary reported at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday at the La Hacienda Market at 1933 Menalto Ave. Officers responded to an alarm call and arrived to see a vehicle leaving the business, which showed signs of a burglary. The driver ignored the officers' order to stop and turned down an alley behind the market, only to be trapped after finding a parked vehicle was blocking the exit, police said.

The occupants of the vehicle then ran into the neighborhood.

Police surrounded the area and eventually found the two suspects, Charles Calhoun, 36, of Oakland, and Darian West, 25, of Antioch, hiding in the backyard of a home, and they were arrested.

Calhoun and West were booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest.

All stolen property was recovered and returned to the business owner, according to police.
