A nonprofit within the Menlo-Atherton High School Football Association is helping fund water, food and first aid for Tonga disaster relief.
MENLO PARK, CA — Bears Without Borders, a nonprofit within the Menlo-Atherton High School Football Association, is raising funds to help support Tonga after a volcanic eruption and tsunami devastated the island last week.
The group makes a trip to Tonga every year to spend time with middle school students through its effort to connect cultures through service and relationships, according to the M-A Chronicle.
A GoFundMe page set up by the organization to fund water, food, first aid, building material and school supplies has raised $4,500 as of Tuesday afternoon. The fundraiser has a goal of $250,000.

Organizers said the group has not had direct contact from family, friends and students they work with in Tonga.
“We are currently in the works of gathering information from our team on the ground in Tonga for the best way to assist everyone affected,” organizers wrote.” Once we are informed, we will continue to post updates on what is happening and the progress of our efforts.”
