Vintage Fire Logo Found On 1956 Engine Menlo Park Fire Bought
During a cleanup job by fleet services and district mechanics, the logo appeared on the 1956 Seagrave engine.
MENLO PARK, CA -- In keeping with its tradition of restoring old fire relics, the fire protection district has discovered a vintage Menlo Park Fire logo on a 1956 Seagrave Engine that it bought in 2010.
The 44-year-old door logo from Idaho represents a hand-painted, gold-leafed emblem depicting an American eagle atop the Fire Maltese Cross. It was found during a cleanup of the engine by fire mechanics Steve Strom and Rudy Torres, along with Fleet Services division Supervisor Chief Ben Marra. The logo was located behind a Juliaetta Volunteer Fire Department door sticker on the Seagrave engine.
“Only sketchings, a cut-out door panel and photographs remained in the fire district's archives," Menlo Park Fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman said. "The door logos on this 1956 Engine are the only known survivors from this unique era of (a) convertible fire apparatus. It’s an amazing find of something we thought was gone forever."
