1,274 Drivers Screened At Weekend SMC DUI Checkpoint
Officials said none of the drivers were found to be under the influence, but nearly three dozen were cited for license-related issues.
MILLBRAE, CA — Nearly 1,300 vehicles were screened during a weekend sobriety and license checkpoint in Millbrae over the weekend, but no drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, officials said Monday.
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office worked with neighboring agencies to staff the DUI checkpoint Friday night along a stretch of El Camino Real.
According to the sheriff's office, 1,274 drivers were screened during the operation, nine field sobriety tests were conducted, and no drivers were arrested for DUI. Officials said 28 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle while unlicensed, and five were cited for not having their state-issued license.

The checkpoint was one of several held across San Mateo County each year, which are paid for with federal funds awarded by the state Office of Traffic Safety.
Drivers facing a first-time DUI conviction typically pay $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.
