Millbrae Deputies Arrest Home Depot Robbery Suspect

MILLBRAE, CA — The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office recently apprehended another suspect using automated license plate readers, which led investigators to a robbery suspect's vehicle in Millbrae.

According to the sheriff's office, detectives had been searching for a man wanted in connection to a weekend robbery at the Home Depot on East Bayshore Road in East Palo Alto. Officers said a man entered the store, threw a cash register on the floor, and left with $300.

The East Palo Alto Police Department shared information about the suspect and his vehicle with neighboring agencies, and San Mateo County deputies matched the vehicle with one captured on a license plate reader, officials said.

Deputies deployed around the city and eventually spotted the vehicle traveling on El Camino Real, prompting a traffic stop. East Palo Alto officers responded to the scene and confirmed the passenger was their robbery suspect. Authorities identified the man as Mark Johnson, 46, of Nevada.

Investigators said the woman who was driving the car was not involved in the robbery, and she was released at the scene. Johnson was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of robbery.
