Millbrae Park Name May Change to Honor Deceased Teen

The Piefer family, , is asking the city to change Bayside Manor Park to Dylan Piefer Playground.

Dylan, 14, was found dead at the park on the evening of Dec. 3. He was a freshman at Mills High School and is survived by two siblings, a 9-year-old and a 16-year-old. He spent almost every day playing in Bayside Park with neighborhood friends, his family said.

“Since his passing, sharing Dylan’s adventurous stories and meeting at the park has been extremely therapeutic in our healing process,” his aunt Jennifer Piefer said. “Dylan was a fun loving child that brought so many people laughter and love.”

The Piefer family collected over 1,000 signatures that it presented to the city requesting the park name change.

“Since this tragic accident, there’s been a sadness to the whole park area,” said Elizabeth Berrios, whose daughter was Dylan’s friend. “Naming the park after him would raise that bad feeling to a good feeling.”

The Piefer’s said they would pay for new signage and any other costs the city may incur.
