SMC Deputies Help Reunite Mom & Kids On Caltrain
Deputies helped reunite a family after a mother was separated from her kids on the train, then helped them find a safe place to stay.

MILLBRAE, CA — Three San Mateo County deputies helped a mother reunite with her young children after a mishap on the Caltrain and made sure the family had a place to stay for the night, according to the sheriff's office.
Officials recounted the story in a social media post Tuesday.
"A mother faced an unexpected and distressing situation: As she loaded her belongings and her two little ones, aged 4 and 2, onto a train, [its] doors suddenly closed, and it began its journey southward with her children on board," the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook. "In this moment of crisis, Deputies Romero and Johnson of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Transit Police Bureau became real-life heroes."

According to the sheriff's office, the two deputies moved quickly to make sure the train would stop at Hayward Park Station to allow deputies to catch up with the train and locate the children. In Millbrae, a third deputy gave the mom a ride to the station and waited with her until the reuniting could take place.
As the three deputies learned more about the family, they discovered the three had recently arrived from Antioch and had limited financial means. The deputies gave the family a ride to a nearby hotel and covered the cost of a night's stay.
