Hello Monrovians,
Find out what's happening in Monroviafor free with the latest updates from Patch.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Myrtle Avenue for the Holiday Parade in Old Town Monrovia! It was incredible having 30 dignitaries, 80 parade entries, 2,000 participants, and 5,000 spectators at the community event!
For those who attended the event, you may have noticed Santa's tardiness. Santa was scheduled to be transported to the parade from the Community Center, but the vehicle had a dead battery. The team found a way to safely transport Santa to the parade, but it did result in Santa being a little late. We understand this created some confusion and disappointment for some community members, and for that, we sincerely apologize. For future parades, we will look to modify our plans to ensure that this does not happen again.

Thank You Girl Scout Troop 2851
Monrovia Canyon Park Staff and Volunteers want to thank Girl Scout Troop 2851 for completing the installation of mile markers in the Hillside Wilderness Preserve that lead to Sunset Bench! The Girl Scouts have been working on their project since October. Amy Crissey and her Girl Scout Troop created this project to measure the distance from our Ridgeside access point to the newly installed Sunset bench along the Lower Clamshell Motorway hiking trail. The measurements were marked every quarter mile with post and mile markers, which indicate the remaining distance to the sunset bench. Hikers and mountain bikers can track their distance as they gradually make their way to our featured view in the Hillside Wilderness Preserve. Thank you Troop 2851 for your dedication and hard work by making our wonderful preserve even more wonderful!
Holiday Safety Tips from Neighborhood & Business Services
The Neighborhood & Business Services Division (NBS) is here to remind you of some tips to keep in mind during this holiday season.
This week we would like to highlight “Safety at Home.” As you all know, the holiday’s tend to bring colder weather and more people around the home. Please follow these tips to ensure safety in your home…
- First, check all of your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and replace the battery with a new one.
- Next would be to consider having a small fire extinguisher at your home and show any children in the home how to properly use it.
- Do not use your stove or oven for heat! Not only is an open flame a risk, but you increase the chance of carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Lastly, do not overload your outlets and extension cords. Our Fire Department likes to call these the octopuses as they have all the cords coming out.
Proposition 19 Town Hall
LA County Assessor Jeff Prang and CA Board of Equalization Chairman Antonio Vazquez will be hosting a Proposition 19 Town Hall on December 8, at 1 p.m. This Town Hall is designed to solicit frontline experiences from real estate professionals and members of the public to determine the path forward in implementing Proposition 19.
2021 Earthquake Brace + Bolt
Registration for the 2021 Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) program has been extended. Homeowners in EBB ZIP Codes can register now through Thursday, December 9, 2021.
EBB helps homeowners lessen the potential for damage during an earthquake by offering $3,000 toward a seismic retrofit for houses that qualify. This year, EBB is also offering an additional Supplemental Grant (SG) to income-eligible homeowners. If your household annual income is $72,080 or less, you may qualify for a SG that could pay for up to 100 percent of your seismic retrofit. SG funds are limited. If your house has not previously received a qualifying retrofit and meets, EBB Program requirements, register now before it’s too late.
If you have questions or need assistance at anytime in the process, we're here to help. Call 877-232-4300 or email info@EarthquakeBraceBolt.com.
