This past week, the community welcomed the start of the holiday season at the Thankful & Grateful Holiday Gathering. It was an incredible sight to see families and friends come together to celebrate our community and embrace our diversity. The event featured live entertainment, community booths, and the holiday tree lighting! 

Thank you to all the community partners who made our event extra magical. We are truly grateful for you!

Thanksgiving Holiday Hours & Operation Schedule 

In observance of Thanksgiving, please note the following changes to operating hours:

  • City Hall 
  • Public Works Yard
  • Library 
  • Community Center 

There will be no parking enforcement on Thursday, November 25, and Friday, November 26. Waste collection will occur one day later if your normal trash day falls on Thursday, November 25, and Friday, November 26.

City of Monrovia launches Official Online Store 

The City of Monrovia has officially launched its first-ever online store! We’re excited to debut an exciting selection of new products including shirts and sweaters, along with classic favorites like mugs and Samson teddy bears. For this holiday season, consider gifting your friends and family with one of a kind Monrovia merchandise! For those who would like to shop in-person, please visit Monrovia City Hall during regular business hours to make your purchase.

Shop Small Business Saturday 

Old Town Monrovia is excited to celebrate Small Business Saturday! This Saturday, November 27, 11:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., bring a receipt from your Saturday purchase in Old Town Monrovia to the booth located on the corner of Lemon Avenue and Myrtle Avenue and get a free Shop Small tote bag, other exciting promotional items, and earn a raffle ticket. The more you shop, the more entries you'll have! 

COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic at MHS

The Monrovia Unified School District will host a COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic on December 4, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., at Monrovia High School. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ups are available.

For those interested in attending the clinic, here's what you need to know: 

  • Pfizer vaccine will be provided
  • Children ages 5+ are eligible
  • Booster shots available for students/families
  • Bring proof of appointment and proper ID
  • Administered by licensed medical providers

Holiday Parade in Old Town Monrovia

The City of Monrovia is excited to announce the return of our annual Holiday Parade in Old Town Monrovia on December 2! The parade will begin at 7 p.m., traveling north on Myrtle Avenue from Chestnut Avenue to Palm Avenue. 

Road Closure Notice 

On Thursday, December 2 streets listed below will be closed, 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.

  • Myrtle Avenue – from Huntington Drive to Foothill Boulevard
  • Maple Avenue – from Ivy Avenue to Primrose Avenue
  • Chestnut Avenue – from Ivy Avenue to Primrose Avenue 
  • Palm Avenue – from Ivy Avenue to Primrose Avenue

Mid-block Closure - The streets outlined below will not be accessible to through traffic. However, parking will be made available at any mid-block public parking lots. For a listing of our public parking lots in Old Town Monrovia, visit monroviaoldtown.org/parking

  • Walnut Avenue - from Ivy Avenue to Primrose Avenue
  • Olive Avenue – from Ivy Avenue to Primrose Avenue 
  • Colorado Avenue – from Ivy Avenue to Primrose Avenue

Open for Through Traffic - Foothill Boulevard, Huntington Drive, Ivy Avenue and Primrose Avenue will remain open for through traffic.

Participate in the Holiday Parade

The Holiday Parade is sponsored by the Monrovia Old Town Advisory Board. Parade application to participate is now available. To register, please complete the application and submit it to the Community Center no later than Monday, November 29. 


Monrovia Youth@Work Job Fair 

On December 8, 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., the Monrovia Youth@Work Job Fair will connect Monrovia youth with paid internships at Monrovia businesses in a variety of fields including non-profits, education, advance manufacturing, engineering and many more. Best of all, the Carnival Truck will provide free food to the first 150 registrants who attend! Those who are interested in attending are encouraged to register today.

Youth@Work is a subsidized work program administered by LA County that provides youth ages 14 to 24 with paid work experience, including a comprehensive and strategic set of employment, training and support services provided through the America’s Job Centers of California.

 

Monrovia Police Officers' Association Toy Drive

Mark your calendars! The Monrovia Police Officers' Association and Detail Union are partnering with the Foothill Unity Center for this year’s Toy Drive on December 11, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. The toy drive will be held at Detail Union at 1311 S. Shamrock Avenue. 

All donations are appreciated, but some of the specific gifts being requested are board games, puzzles, and gift cards.

Monrovia Association of Fine Arts presents Chalksgiving

It’s Almost Chalksgiving -- Gobble This Up! 

Monrovia Association of Fine Arts presents Chalkgiving, an at-home chalk festival for the whole community, November 25 - 28. You're invited to be part of this warm and wonderful pan-cultural event that celebrates community, family, the arts and gratitude during these challenging times.

To participate, register on the MAFA website at monroviafinearts.org. Then pick up your kit to create chalk art with the theme “What We’re Grateful For” on your sidewalk or driveway at home. And thanks to the generosity of our community partners, you can get the chalk for FREE! 

How would you spend $15,000,000 to better Monrovia? The Monrovia City Council wants to hear from you and City staff are holding outreach activities to hear your ideas, thoughts and preferences for how to spend this money. Come join friends, neighbors, business owners and the city manager and staff at a town hall meeting. Below are meetings dates and times.

  • December 4, Library Park, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. 
  • December 11, Station Square Park, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Water Conservation Kits Now Available 

The City is continuing to offer FREE water conservation kits to help meet the 15% water conservation goal declared by Governor Newsom. Please submit the following form to request a kit for pick up at the Public Works Yard located at 600 S. Mountain Avenue. Please note, this is for Monrovia residents only and is limited to one kit per household.

Work Around Town 

Route 66 Roadway Markings 
The roadway markings along the historic Route 66 have been completed! Keep an eye out when you’re driving along Huntington Drive and Foothill Boulevard for the new signage! 

Tree Trimming 
Grid 3 tree trimming will continue this week through next as they work between Mayflower Avenue and Fifth Avenue from Genoa Street to the Southern boundary of the City’s jurisdiction.

Power Outage
Southern California Edison (SCE) has planned power outages to take place on Thursday, December 2, along Ridgeside Drive and Briarcliff Road. SCE will be notifying all impacted residents.
