Comments of the Week: "Santa carries fabric bags because he reuses them every year."

Check out the best, funniest, strangest and most informative things our readers have to say.

We take pride in our work here at Patch and always strive to bring our readers interesting news. However, we must admit, sometimes the most interesting part of a great Patch story is the comments from readers that it sparks.

This past week, one particular comments thread had it all. Here are some of the best, funniest, strangest and most informative comments for this installment for the San Gabriel Valley and Crescenta Valley Patch sites this past week.

Monrovia City Council to Consider Plastic Bag Ban This Fall

Monrovia's City Council is studying bag bans in other cities and may decide in the fall whether to approve or deny the use of plastic bags. Naturally, the topic brings up a lengthy discussion from both sides. Some comments funny, some prompting a serious debate. Readers jake and Melissa's banter included both and ended with this exchange that made me chuckle. I've also included a few more comments from readers on both sides of the debate.

jake August 7, 2013 at 03:54 pm You win Melissa I'll purchase big hefty bags and look like santa claus coming out of the supermarket

Melissa ramirez August 7, 2013 at 04:16 pm Santa carries fabric bags because he reuses them every year.

rubberband August 7, 2013 at 05:09 pm Moderator, close this thread. No longer informative or useful. Don't feed the trolls. Or, by all means feed them, get annoyed by someone on line, start a WAR, get personal, get snarky, lose any interested readers, and fail at making a clear intelligent point. And for real facts about Santa, Goggle that. Santa has been using PLASTIC BAGS FOR YEARS and all the toys come from China. Santa and the name were purchased by A MAJOR SODA COMPANY (wink wink) and has gone to the darkside....You are welcome Internets and The Patch.
Naomi August 7, 2013 at 10:02 am Sorry, but I am a full time mom, grandma and caregiver to 11. Not having to worry about washing, drying and sanitizing bags saves me a ton of time. Yes plastic bags are a convenience and yes when we see them on the ground we pick them up. IT IS ABOUT CHOICES.. to do the right things. Not because we are made to do them but because we know we should do them. ALWAYS there will be those who will not make good choices. The citizens of our country are losing their freedoms one at a time. We need the freedom to make our own choices right or wrong. I think people should look at the bigger picture. Plastic bags is just one more little thing that when all put together make up the whole picture. I sometimes stop at the grocery store when I remember something I needed and end up buying everything that is on sale. Having bags, which most definitely is a convenience for me, at the store is HUGE. IF you prefer to use reusable bags and are diligent to keep them clean and sanitized then that is your privilege. As for me, I enjoy not adding to my already large wash days, and having bags at the grocery store is one less thing I have to worry about.

nickel841 August 09, 2013 at 08:44 PM I am glad to be living in a democracy where we can still enjoy discussion of our public lives. However, I do not see the banning of plastic shopping bags (not all plastic bags) a problem of the overeach of government. Nor do I view laws regarding illegally dumping garbage, garbage collection, garbage dumps and taxing for curb garbage collection an overeach. If someone cannot afford a reusable shopping bag there are plenty of individuals and community organizations that would be glad to help out. Its more about the kind of world we want to leave our kids, grandkids and the care of increasingly overworked oceans- where many of the bags end up. And the collective civic lessons that we can learn and pass to the next generations.
