High-Speed Driver Dies In Fiery Monrovia Crash

Witnesses told the Monrovia Police Department the man was driving around 100 mph in a 25 mph zone at the time of the crash.

MONROVIA, CA — A man died in a single-car crash in Monrovia Sunday morning after his car flipped over and caught on fire, police said.

Authorities have not released the driver's name, and no one else was with him in the car during the crash, according to the Monrovia Police Department. Witnesses told officers the man was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck at speeds up to 100 mph in a 25 mph area before the crash.

The speeding car struck a curb around 6:51 a.m., near the 400 block of North Magnolia Avenue, causing it to flip over and catch fire.

It’s unknown why the man was driving at such high speeds, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
