Mayor: Monrovia Will Be 'Premier Stop of the Foothills' Along Gold Line (Video)

Mayor Mary Ann Lutz discussed the city's Station Square Transit Village in her annual State of the City Address Monday, saying that Monrovia will become the "premier stop of the foothills" when the Gold Line arrives.

Lutz also used her speech to announce the name of Monrovia's forthcoming rail maintenance yard. Construction on the "Gold Line Operations Campus" began late last year and Lutz said the Monrovia Station along the line is less than two years away from being completed.

A pending lawsuit against the city continues to be an impediment to the city's Station Square Transit Village development, but Lutz said public improvements to the area are coming no matter what.

"What gets developed in and around the station is not yet certain," she said. "What is certain is that we will see $16 and a half million dollars in public improvements surrounding that stop."
