Monrovia Boy With Cerebral Palsy Given Specialized Standing Chair By Monrovia Police Officers Association

The standing allows Jose De Anda, 9, to stand upright but his insurance did not cover it, so in steps the MPOA.

MONROVIA, CA -- A Monrovia boy with cerebral palsy has a new specialized standing chair thanks to the Monrovia Police Officers Association, the Pasadena Star-News reported.

Jose De Anda, 9, was surprised with the gift during a special assembly Tuesday afternoon at Mayflower Elementary School, according to the Star-News.

The standing allows De Anda to stand upright. He was using a special standing chair during physical therapy but his insurance does not cover a chair for his own use, the Star-News reported.

School resource officer James Ruano sought to rectify that by contacting the MPOA to help him get his own chair, according to the Star-News.

“He feels really happy and motivated when he’s upright,” mom Hellen De Anda told the Star-News. “He’ll be able to make eye contact with kids at school and at his church.”
