MONROVIA, CA — Hikers and walkers will soon be able to hit the trails at Monrovia Canyon Park once again as city officials are set to welcome back guests beginning Aug. 30.

However, guests won’t be able to walk into the park whenever they feel like it when it reopens. Reservations will be required, and information on how to reserve a spot at the park will be made available sometime later this week, city officials said in a statement.

Visitors are encouraged to check Monrovia’s website for when the reservation system becomes available.

Monrovia Canyon Park has been closed since last September, when the Bobcat Fire scorched more than 100,000 acres of land in the San Gabriel Mountains, including swaths of Monrovia.

City staff and volunteers have spent the time since repairing the park's trails, clearing out fallen trees, and repainting buildings within the park, officials said. Monrovia even received more than $41,000 from the state to help construct a parking lot at the park's entrance.
