Monrovia Educator Named as L.A. County District Teacher of the Year

Jennifer Tubbs from Wild Rose Elementary was honored at a ceremony in Universal City.

MONROVIA, CA — A Monrovia teacher was named as a Los Angeles County District Teacher of the Year last week in Universal City.

Jennifer Tubbs, who teaches fifth grade at Wild Rose Elementary School, was one of the 57 County District Teachers of the Year. Sixteen other teachers in the county were named Los Angeles County Teachers of the Year.

The honorees were chosen from 73 district-level teachers of the year chosen earlier this year from among 75,000 educators, according to the county Office of Education.

Five statewide co-winners will be announced in October, and one of them will be selected to represent California in the National Teacher of the Year competition in the spring.

Tubbs was instrumental in helping the school win first place in the district for saving the most energy. She worked with the students in the school's after-school club called PowerSavers to come up with a plan to move the school to a more energy-efficient practice.
