Monrovia Man in Custody After Threatening Wife With Loaded Shotgun

The woman was able to run to a neighbor's house to call for help. Her two children were still inside the house when police arrived.

MONROVIA, CA -- A Monrovia man was behind bars after allegedly threatening his wife with a shotgun and holing up in their home for some time Friday, police said.

The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. when the wife said she was awakened by her husband who was pointing a shotgun at her. The man allegedly opened the shotgun to show her it was loaded, police said.

Two shells fell out and the wife grabbed the shells and ran to a neighbor's house to call the police.

The woman told officers her two children, ages 3 and 7, are still inside the home. Police then surrounded the home and made contact with the man.

"An officer called the house by phone and spoke to the suspect at length until eventually he was able to persuade the suspect to come out," Monrovia Police Department said in a statement. "The suspect was arrested and taken into custody without further incident."

The children were unharmed and slept through the whole thing, police said.
