Monrovia Police Receives $108K Grant For Traffic Safety

MONROVIA, CA — The Monrovia Police Department is hoping to keep the city’s streets a little bit safer thanks to a $108,000 grant it received from the California Office of Traffic Safety.

The department announced the grant Thursday and said it will help roll out its “police traffic services program to deter dangerous and illegal driving behaviors that increase the risk of crashes in the community.”

“Impairment, speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors jeopardize the safety of other people on the road,” Lt. Kevin Oberon said in a statement. “This funding allows us to provide necessary traffic enforcement measures with the goal of reducing serious injury and fatal crashes on our roads.”

The money will help fund:

• DUI checkpoints and patrols;
• Enforcement operations focused on drivers who are texting or talking on their phones;
• Bicycle and pedestrian safety operations;
• Community education programs.

The grant money will run through September 2022, the department said.
