Monrovia Unified Eyes Giving Chromebooks To Students
The Monrovia Unified School District wants to give every one of its students a Chromebook for the school year.
MONROVIA, CA — The Monrovia Unified School District plans to give every student a Chromebook when they return for the start of the school year.
The district is finalizing its plans for the laptop distribution, which will be unveiled during the July 28 Board of Education meeting, according to a statement from Superintendent Ryan Smith. If the plan is approved, laptops would be given to all district students, from transitional kindergarten to the 12th grade. Students would be able to use the laptops at home or school, according to Smith.
Monrovia Unified has an enrollment of around 5,400 students, according to the California Department of Education.

“Integrating Chromebooks into our classrooms presents an opportunity for us to continue to personalize and accelerate learning,” he said. “Providing access to Chromebooks also allows for learning to continue beyond classroom walls.”
The Board of Education is scheduled to meet July 28 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be conducted virtually as a safety precaution against COVID-19 and can be streamed online. Community members can email their public comments before the start of the meeting.
