Monrovia's Santa Anita Y Holds Fundraiser For Reopening

MONROVIA, CA — The Santa Anita Family YMCA in Monrovia has been closed for more than a year because of the pandemic, but a fundraiser may soon change things.

The Santa Anita Y aims to reopen sometime in January 2022 and is hoping to raise at least $90,000 to do it. The funds will be used to purchase new exercise equipment and to expand its offerings of services and resources for the community, according to its fundraising page.

The fundraiser has brought in a little more than $41,000 as of Tuesday evening.

The location caters to the cities of Arcadia, Azusa, Duarte, Irwindale and Monrovia, according to its website.

“We plan to launch community programming focused on fighting food insecurity, providing equity in education, making sure every child has the opportunity to experience the joy of sports, ensuring kids and teens have a safe place to grow and learn and live a healthy lifestyle,” the organization said.
