Updated with Video: Spartans Dominate Postseason League Awards

The Spartans were on a whole other level than their Rio Hondo League conterparts this season. Not only did they storm through the playoffs en route to the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 title, but La Canada also ran away with the league going a perfect 12-0 with 10 of those wins coming via a shutout.

It only made sense, then, that the Spartans would take home the majority of the league's postseason awards after a season of dominance on the diamond.

La Canada senior Anna Edwards was named the league's Most Valuable Player and Lauren O'Leary claimed Most Valuable Pitcher honors. Edwards led the Spartans at the plate, hitting .471 on the year with 12 home runs and 31 RBIs. She also hit the solo home run that carried the Spartans past Beaumont for the divisional title.

O'Leary was equally dominant -- if not more -- in the circle. O'Leary handled more than 90 percent of the Spartans' pitching duties, logging 181 1/3 of the team's 199 innings. She finished with a 0.39 ERA and 15 shutouts, including the 1-0 win in last Friday's championship game.
