About 100 Protest Sale of Twelve Oaks Lodge

About 100 supporters of the residents of Twelve Oaks Retirement Lodge in La Crescenta protested the facility's potential sale Wednesday at the headquarters of the be.group, according to the Glendale News-Press. 

The protest at 516 Burchett Street in Glendale drew many Twelve Oaks residents and members of the Glendale chapter of the National Charity League, according to the story. 

The National Charity League used to operate the facility and handed it over to the be.group about ten years ago as part of a trust. But no money was involved in the exchange, which prompted the National Charity League to claim that the sale violates the trust's original intent and ask for the California attorney general's help in investigating the issue, according to the Glendale News-Press. 

The be.group plans to sell Twelve Oaks and force its 50 residents to move out by Nov. 1 because it says it cannot afford to continue to operate it. 

At a meeting of the Crescenta Valley Community Association on Sept. 26, many people showed up to voice their anger over the sale, but the outcome of the meeting suggested that the prospects of stopping the sale are thin, according to the Crescenta Valley Weekly.
